# How to Choose the Right Europe Camino Walking Tour

By Life's An Adventure November 19, 2025

Share:

Imagine you’re chatting with a good mate over coffee: “I’m thinking of doing a Camino walk in Europe, but I don’t know where to start…” Here’s how I’d walk you (pardon the pun!) through your decision-making.

- **Match your time & fitness. Do you have only around a week (e.g., eight days), or can you spare two to three weeks? The shorter the time, the more selective the Camino trail.**

Life’s An Adventure has done the hard work. They’ve curated Camino Europe options that deliver the essence of the pilgrimage (without lugging your big backpack) so you can enjoy the walk, scenery and culture.

- **Decide your level of comfort & “holiday” feel**

Some walking tours are rugged and simple; others are indulgent, with boutique accommodation and gourmet meals every night. Life’s An Adventure leans strongly toward comfort, so you’ll enjoy stunning boutique hotels with comforts, luggage transfers and walking “with ease”.

- **Choose the flavour of scenery & culture**

Are you drawn to France’s rural châteaux and rolling hills? Or Spain’s historic pilgrim vibe? Or perhaps Portugal’s mellow coastlines and vineyards? The trail you pick will determine the kind of landscapes, food, history and fellow walkers you’ll meet.

- **Consider whether you want the certificate (the “Compostela”)**

If you walk the last 100 km into Santiago de Compostela on the Spanish Camino, you can earn the Pilgrim’s Certificate. Some tours include that; others emphasise scenery, heritage, and walking comfort. For example, the Spanish 8-day tour covers the last 100 km, where you’ll be rewarded with your Compostela.

- **Decide whether you want a “mini pilgrimage” or the full epic adventure**

A shorter walk gives you a taste of the Camino experience along the best parts each day. A longer walk (12 days, 18 days) gives deeper immersion. Life’s An Adventure has options ranging from 8 days up to 18 days. Compare Life’s An Adventure Four Camino Walks

**Each of Life’s An Adventure Wow-mazing Camino walks are uniquely different.**

**8-Day French Camino (Le Puy to St Jean Pied de Port)**
\- This is in France, starting at Le Puy‑en‑Velay and leading toward the Pyrenees, ending at St Jean‑Pied‑de‑Port.

- \- Accommodation includes three grand châteaux and boutique stays for a slightly more luxurious feel.

- \- Best for: those who prefer quieter trails, French countryside, fewer crowds and high comfort.

- \- Key difference: French flavour, elegant accommodation, less “classic pilgrim” feel and more “luxury walking holiday”. 8-Day Spanish Camino (Sarria to Santiago)

**8 day Spanish Camino (Sarria to Sanitago de Compostela**
\-This tour covers the final 100 km of the Camino de Santiago from the town of Sarria into Santiago de Compostela.
\- Because it’s the last leg, you’ll arrive at the cathedral and savour that “I did it” moment.
\- Best for: walkers with limited time (one week or so), who want the pilgrimage feel, Compostela certificate, but prefer not to commit to multiple weeks. \* Key difference: concentrated in Spain, well-walked route, strong pilgrim culture.

- **8-Day Portuguese Way (Porto to Santiago)**
\-Walk from Porto in Portugal into Spain, finishing in Santiago. \* Offers beautiful scenery, coastal and inland, and often fewer crowds compared to some Spanish routes.
\- Best for: those who want a slightly different backdrop (Portugal’s vineyards, gentle trails), delicious local food and a relaxed pace.
\- Key difference: Portugal entry, wine country, different vibe, still ends at Santiago.

- **18-Day Highlights of the Camino (Le Puy → Santiago)**
\-This is the “deep dive” version: 18 days walking from France (Le Puy) into Spain, via the Pyrenees and then finishing the last 100 km into Santiago.
\* The ultimate for those wanting a prolonged walking holiday, deeper immersion, more change of scenery, more time to reflect and savour.
\* Best for: enthusiastic walkers, travellers who can spare the time, desire a “whole pilgrimage experience” with comfort and support. \* Key difference: length, changing terrain (mountains, France + Spain), more varied accommodation and experience.

- **Some Final Handy Tips**
    • Start early in your planning: These popular guided Camino walking tours often book out well ahead, especially in peak seasons.

    • Understand what “pack-free” really means: With Life’s An Adventure, you only carry a small day pack; your main luggage is transported for you, so you can walk light and enjoy the journey. Private transfers each day allows flexible walking options allowing you to opt out of a section of walking if you feel you have walked enough for the day, or you want a day free of walking.

    • Prepare realistically: Most days are moderate, but you’ll still be walking several hours each day. A little training before you go makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

    • Check what’s included: If earning the pilgrim certificate (the Compostela) matters to you, choose a walk that includes the final 100 km into Santiago de Compostela.

    • Match your time to your walk: If you’ve got around a week, one of the 8-day options is ideal. If you can spare two weeks or more, the 11 or 18-day Camino experiences offer deeper immersion.

    • Weigh up your priorities: Are you chasing the certificate, craving luxury accommodation, or keen to avoid crowds? Knowing what matters most will help you pick the right Camino.

    • Consider terrain and atmosphere: The French route is quieter and more boutique-style; the Spanish leg is the classic pilgrimage experience with more walkers and a strong sense of arrival.

    • Think about timing and seasons: Spring and early autumn bring mild weather, fewer crowds, and lush scenery, ideal for walking.

    • Enjoy the comfort factor: Life’s An Adventure tours are designed for comfort, boutique stays, local wine, and regional cuisine. Think “holiday walking”, not “hardcore trekking”.

    • Allow for travel time and jet lag: Whether you’re flying from the United States or elsewhere, arrive a day or two early so you can settle in and start your Camino refreshed and ready to walk. So lace up your boots, pack light, and discover why Life’s An Adventure walking tours turn every step of the Camino into a wow-mazing memory.
