"description": "**Walk grades**:\nMorning walk: 4.3 km / 2.67 miles, 1.5 hours. Grade: moderate. Elevation gain: 205 m with some short steep sections.\nAfternoon walk: 2 km / 1.24 miles, 1.5 hours. Grade: easy. Includes a staircase of approximately 210 steps down to the waterfall viewing platform.\n\n**Itinerary**: Guests meet the guides at 8.00 am in the foyer of the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston. From here, we travel west into the Tarkine, Australia’s largest cool-temperate rainforest and one of Tasmania’s most remarkable wilderness regions.\n\nOur first walk today is the Powerhouse and Ringtail Falls trail, a peaceful and little-known rainforest gem. This moderate trail winds through towering myrtle, sassafras and giant tree ferns, following a cool shaded creek. Along the way, we pass the moss-covered remains of an old hydroelectric powerhouse, now slowly reclaimed by the forest, before the sound of water guides us to the beautiful Ringtail Falls. With its lush greenery, clear pools and quiet atmosphere, this is a rewarding introduction to the Tarkine.\n\nThis afternoon, we continue to Philosopher’s Falls, a spectacular rainforest walk rich in both natural beauty and history. The trail follows an old water race once used during early mining days, weaving through dense myrtle forest draped in moss and lichens. Keep an eye out for fungi of every colour, birds flitting through the canopy, and even the occasional platypus in the creek below. The walk concludes at a viewing platform overlooking the cascading waterfalls, an unforgettable sight framed by ancient trees.\n\nAfter two wonderful walks, we travel into the remote settlement of Corinna, arriving at the Corinna Wilderness Lodge for the next three nights. Set beside the pristine Pieman River, this former 1800s gold-mining township is a rare pocket of restored heritage surrounded by untouched wilderness. Guests stay in beautifully appointed one-bedroom cottages—the finest accommodation in Corinna.\n\nEnjoy time to settle in before gathering for a hearty dinner at the Tannin Restaurant, accompanied by Tasmanian wine, the perfect finish to your first day in the Tarkine.\n\n**Accommodation**: Corinna Wilderness Lodge "

"description": "**Walk grade**: 13 km / 8.07 miles, approximately 6 hours walking. Good level of fitness required. Grade: moderate.\n\n**Terrain**: Mainly flat walking with no significant inclines. Expect a mix of formed trails, sections of soft and firm sand, and some light rock hopping along the coast.\n\n**Itinerary**: After a hearty breakfast, we board our private boat for a serene journey down the pristine Pieman River. This is one of Tasmania’s most enchanting waterways, lined with towering rainforest and renowned for its mirror-still reflections. As we travel towards the river mouth, the scenery becomes increasingly wild and remote.\n\nOur boat drops us near the point where the Pieman River meets the Southern Ocean. From here, we begin a spectacular section of the Tarkine Coast Track, heading north along one of the most rugged and untouched coastlines on Earth. Looking out to sea, the next landmass is South America, over two-thirds of the world away, giving this remote location an extraordinary sense of scale and isolation.\n\nThe walk unfolds across windswept beaches, coastal meadows, rocky headlands and dramatic surf pounded by the Roaring Forties. Keep an eye out for the region’s remarkable wildlife, including white-bellied sea eagles, wombats, seabirds and the elusive Tasmanian devil that roams this wild coastline.\n\nBy late afternoon, we return to Corinna Wilderness Lodge to relax and unwind. Enjoy a delicious dinner at the Tannin Restaurant, paired with Tasmanian wine, and share stories from an unforgettable day on the Tarkine coast.\n\n**Please note**: Weather conditions can influence the direction of the boat journey. If conditions are unfavourable, the captain may choose to travel south, and the walk will be adjusted accordingly for guest safety.\n\n**Accommodation**: Corinna Wilderness Lodge"

Follows the Savage River with some uneven terrain and short steep sections.\nShorter morning option: 3.5 km / 2.1 miles, 1.5–2 hours. Grade: easy.\n\n**Afternoon options**:\nMt Donaldson summit: 8 km / 4.9 miles, 3.5 hours. Grade: moderate. Steady climb with rewarding panoramic views.\n\n**Itinerary**: After breakfast, we begin our day with a breathtaking walk along the pristine Savage River. Surrounded by rugged, untouched wilderness, this immersive trail winds through a tapestry of ancient forest and raw, untamed beauty. Marvel at the towering trees and moss-covered undergrowth as the river flows beside us, offering a constant soundtrack of nature’s serenity. For those preferring a gentler pace, the Whyte River walk provides a shorter but equally picturesque option, featuring tranquil riverside scenery and the calming sounds of native birdlife.\n\nIn the afternoon, adventurers can either choose to climb to the summit of Mt Donaldson — a steady ascent through striking terrain leading to panoramic views that stretch across Tasmania’s vast and wild landscapes. The climb offers a true sense of achievement, with vistas that make every step worthwhile. Alternatively, the guests can have the afternoon at leisure to enjoy Corinna's facilities.\n\nAfterwards, return to Corinna Wilderness Lodge for another relaxing evening in the heart of the Tarkine.\n\n**Accommodation**: Corinna Wilderness Lodge"

Steep mountain walking with uneven ground.\nFlexible walking option: easier 3-hour walk available today.\n\n**Terrain**:\nMain walk: Steep, uneven mountain trail with rocks, roots, fallen trees and occasional muddy sections. An easy rock scramble is required near the summit of Mt Farrell.\nEasier option: Mostly flat walking on a formed trail. Surfaces can be slippery with occasional mud.\n\n**Itinerary**: After breakfast, we set out for our final adventure — a stunning walk into the Tarkine mountains. The trail begins with a steady ascent through cool, mossy forest, where the air is crisp and filled with the scent of eucalyptus. Listen for the calls of native birds as we climb, surrounded by tall trees and rich green undergrowth.\n\nAs we gain elevation, the landscape gradually shifts into rugged alpine terrain. The track winds its way through low heathlands and open rocky slopes, offering glimpses of the vast wilderness beyond. Our destination is the summit of Mt Farrell, and the journey is as rewarding as the view itself. Near the top, a short, easy rock scramble brings us to sweeping, panoramic vistas — a breathtaking outlook stretching across the Tarkine rainforest, over the wild west coast, and inland toward the iconic peaks of Cradle Mountain. It is a moment that celebrates the true scale and beauty of Tasmania’s remote landscapes.\n\nAfter taking time to enjoy the summit and capture the views, we begin our descent, savouring the stillness and pristine atmosphere one last time. Returning to Corinna Wilderness Lodge, we gather our belongings and begin the scenic journey back to Launceston, reflecting on the extraordinary walks, wilderness moments and shared experiences that have made this Tarkine adventure so memorable."
